Arno Bohlmeijer wint PEN America Grant 2021

PEN America, dat jaarlijks twintig literaire prijzen en stipendia toekent, heeft het PEN/Phyllis Naylor Stipendium voor schrijvers van kinderboeken en jeugdromans 2021 ter hoogte van 5000 dollar toegekend aan de Zutphense schrijver en dichter Arno Bohlmeijer.
Bohlmeijer, die tal van jeugdboeken op zijn naam heeft en zowel in het Nederlands als in het Engels publiceert, krijgt de toelage voor zijn jeugdroman-in-wording Scared-Mad-More!

Uit het juryrapport: ‘Bohlmeijer’s distinctive and original narrative voice told a story both tender and powerful about a child navigating friendships, challenging family relationships, and feelings of isolation in a sometimes confusing world. We found ourselves drawn in by the vulnerability and winsome eccentricity of Sparrow, the narrator, who sees the extraordinary in the ordinary all around her.’
